By heyheyheywotisay Though I appreciate the two previous reviewers giving so much detail, I truly believe they exaggerate the difficulties of using this product. Overall, this is a "great" product. You will pay a little more because it is an Oreck, but quality construction, reliability, and the fact Oreck stands behind their products make the extra few dollars worth it. My reason for purchasing a steam cleaner was to clean stone and tile floors, "especially" the grout. Frankly, this unit does such an amazing job with this, if it did nothing else well, I would still be happy. I will no longer have to waste time and money on "very" expensive grout cleaners and sealers that do not work. Trust me, the Oreck get's grout and tile as clean as the day you had them installed. I have used it on shower glass, the marble in the shower, and a stovetop with great success. My hardwood floors look great, and like my stone and tile, I will never have to buy expensive floor cleaners again. The two micro-fiber cloths provided could definitely be larger, not sure what Oreck was thinking there. However, the cleaner is designed to use any micro-fiber cloth, so you can replace them anytime you like without having to buy them from Oreck. The clip system with the smaller cloths can be a bit of a challenge, but not so bad once you get the hang of it. Again, you can buy larger cloths at the local Walmart if they bother you that much. When fully filled with water, the unit can be heavy for some if trying to do a job above the head, or at the shoulders, (yes you can put it above your head without it leaking). However, the easy solution is don't fill it all the way when doing these type of jobs. PROS: Great construction. Large tank, and comes to steam quick. No expensive cleaners. No chemicals. Not Ready For Prime Time By TechDiva Let me start by saying that I am a huge Oreck fan. I think that they make quality products that do what they say they do. However, I can't say that this product measures up. They are on the right track but have several details to work out yet. I already own a Shark steam mop but find the handle to be a little short (I am tall) and it doesn't hold enough water to do my whole kitchen area with one fill. I was quite excited to hear that Oreck had a steam mop. I went to the Oreck store and got a demo. I commented then that the 'pad' was loose and coming off while he mopped, and that the head of the mop was being uncooperative during the carpet refresh demo. He made excuses for all so I bought the steam mop. The mop holds about a gallon of water, and has a very tall handle and a long cord. All good things. The quality and construction are excellent. However, the first thing you notice is that it weighs more than your vaccuum. The pad is actually a piece of cotton duck fabric about a foot square with a strip of terry cloth like fabric down the center. Picture a baby diaper from 20 years ago. You lay that on the floor and use those yellow tabs in the picture to pinch the loose ends of the cloth under the yellow tab. I began to mop and noticed right away that the steam production is fast and strong, good, but the mop is very very hard to push. It is heavy and awkward to move and now I know why the salesman spent so much time showing me the shoulder movement I should use to push the mop back and fowards. The forward motion caused everything I picked up with the mop to be pushed into a line of bits and fuzz on the floor so I tried to turn the mop and capture the fuzzy stuff. Immediately the pad came unclipped. I repositioned the pad and tried again. Again the pad came off. I tried to mop around the bathroom toilet, pulling it longways along the side

Sherwin As of the time I am writing this, this three pack set of Swiffer duster refills is more economical than buying three single boxes of refills on Amazon; and the duster refills never become so old that they "expire!" These fit easily onto the Swiffer duster handle and they really do an excellent job of trapping dust, hair or even small particles of food in hard to reach places. I am simply amazed that these dusters do so much more than just move the dust around--these things actually pick up the dust, hair and more and make `em stick to the duster like anything! This helps a lot when you can't vacuum certain places. While you can use these duster refills to dust, you can also use them to clean record albums. I am a huge music enthusiast and Swiffer dusters help tremendously when I need to clean the dust and light dirt residue off a vinyl record album. You can use the duster again and again on quite a few record albums before they begin to discolor; when the duster turns from a light blue to a light grey it's safe to assume that you need to switch to a new duster. You can also just use the duster without its handle. The duster refill fits easily in your hand without its handle; and this can be useful when you're dusting off a low coffee table or an end table that has a book on it; indeed the duster refill can often work well alone without its handle when cleaning other surfaces. A Strong Sweeper By Michael Kerner The people at Shark and Euro-Pro cleaning companies have always known how to make so many great products with vacuums, and carpet sweepers. Nevertheless, when it comes down to it, it really is on how well the vacuum really lasts. Shark's previous cordless sweepers have all done a great job at picking up after everyday messes, but they have been some glitches. I was honestly very skeptical with the latest model when I saw it on television, and I liked it a lot, but as I started to use it, I was hoping for just a bit more. Here is my verdict. The Shark VX3 Cordless Sweeper is the latest in Euro-Pro's well-recieved carpet sweeper line. This one does a good job at picking up after pet hair and fuzz, and is very simple to setup. You can pick up actually a lot of pet hair, fuzz, or anything off your floors and carpets. It is easy to charge up, and does really works well. The no-mess dust cup is very simple to clean up, and easily removes all that was picked up from the floors. The vacuum is also very easy to carry around, and take from room to room, without feeling the drag of carrying around your vacuum and getting a backache. That is what I think, even though there really are a few problems that still make could've been a bit easier to pick up after. The first problem deals with the battery. ou have to really keep the sweeper plugged in to your outelt for at least a day, inorder to fully charge a the battery. The VX3's battery also could've had a bit stronger battery life than just an hour long. The second problem deals with the backsaver feature. While the VX3 does pick up well, and is easy to operate, I had a tricky time manuvering the VX3 with the backsaver handle. While the concept is ingenius at folding the handle to make it easier at picking up under the beds and those hard-to-reach areas, it is honestly a little bit harder to control and steer the sweeper. Still, despite a few problems with the Shark VX3 Cordless Sweeper, I still think it is a very good buy for anyone who wants a easier way to clean up after all those messes on the floor. It just does a great job at really cleaning up your floors and is great for small homes and apartments, or any home that works at a great pace. While you can get this though the As Seen On TV ads, you also can find this at your nearest Macy's for around $70, instead of getting both the VX3 and VX1 models like the infomercial says in its offer for $130. So, suck those problems on the floor away, and try this sweeper out. By Chandler (update: This review was updated on 11-2-09 after I got to compare the Bissell as well as add notes about the Ladybugg steamer at the bottom, and then on 11-30 when I got to compare the SteamFast SF-140) I live in a neighborhood where EVERY home is "green built certified" this means that, to have that certification, the builder built no homes with carpet. All the main floors are polished concrete and the upper floors wood. The bathrooms all have tile and/or slate in every home. Because of this, as you could imagine, steam mops are quite the neccessity...not only because they get the hard surfaces better than anything else, but because they are also "green" and clean chemical free. I'll be honest, for us...that's a bonus but we weren't cleaning chemical free before. We like chemical free for our pet's paws but I'll confess I was mopping with chemicals before I got my steamer and just kept the pets out of the room while doing it because, up until then, I couldn't get it clean any other way. Okay, so that said...we decided to have a steamer show down to compare 6 different steamers because my friends and I knew as long as we are in these homes we are gonna have to have a steamer to get all these hard floors clean...we may as well figure out which one to buy next go round. Because my own home is graced with 2 cats, 3 dogs, and two gregarious cooks, my kitchen floor (which had not ever been cleaned by a steamer since my steamer had just arrived) was the testing spot. Mind you, I vaccuum twice per week and do a mega mop twice a week. I THOUGHT I had pretty clean floors in spite of my pet capacity. I thought wrong. These picked up dirt so well it's scary So here's the results: 1. steam mops are the mac daddys of clean floors. What these things picked up was tremendous and no comparison to my vigorous prior constant major mopping. 2. I actually look forward to mopping now. It's easy to use and doesnt push the dirt around. The pads absorb the dirt, the water, and the floor dries in seconds. I love it. Buying the replacement pads can be expensive but I found out that the H20 mop pads are cheaper and they can be used with the dirt devil steam mop and they work just as well. Be sure to buy the dirt devil steam mop with the carpet glider attachment because it is NOT sold separately. 6 of 7 people found the following review helpful. Does not swivel, the head is an awkward design so it doesnt fit into small spaces, very difficult to get along walls with, doesnt hold very much water (it took 13 refills to do my kitchen and dining room and I have a small home). Worth the Wait By DirecTv user After hearing wonderful things about steam mops from my friends, I starting doing research on them. I was anxious to retire my Swiffer which, as a mop, was better than nothing, but it left my dark hardwood floors streaky and I felt like I was just pushing the dirt around on the ceramic tile in my kitchen. I borrowed my neighbor's Shark and after using it one time knew that I wanted a different mop. I was excited to see this new model from Bissell as I had narrowed it down to a Bissell or the Eureka Enviro-Steam. [...] so I decided on the Bissell. The Bissell 31N1 was easy to put together, and includes a hanger so that you can hang your steam mop for storage. I used distilled water since it is supposed to prolong the life of the filter it comes with. The pads are substantial and easy to attach and stay in place while mopping. The unit took a little while to warm up but has an indicator light to tell you when it is ready. In use I saw hot steam pouring out which was great. The floors stayed wet for a while after use, but just like what happens when you mop a floor. I think I was trigger happy so I probably won't hit the steam button as much next time and try to spread the steam around a little bit better. I did dry the hardwoods after I used it as a precaution and that was fine. I was disappointed to see my hardwood floors were still streaking but a neighbor told me that once all of the other floor cleaners come off the floor (after I continue to use my steam mop), the streaks will go away. I hope so. A cleaning person I used sprayed furniture polish on the hardwoods (argh!) so it might be a while. I still think the floors are wonderfully clean and the mop is easy to swivel around and use with the cord being a nice length. I didn't have water leak on the floor like the other reviewer but perhaps that is because I removed the water tank immediately after use - not sure. I think you would be happy with this mop. CHEAP AND WORKS By NOELVM Well I bought one of these from ABCVACUUM in Austin Tx yesterday for 89.95. I got it today. I couldn't wait to try it out. Anything that looks this good on TV usually isn't. First some facts. I'm a guy and I'm 65 and a widower. It's me and the dogs and the linoleum floor in my kitchen is about 50+ years old and the old spoonge wet mop just wasn't cuttin it. Well, I put this thing together and plugged it in. It doesn't have an on/off switch. You wait for the red light to come on which doesn't take long and then pull the trigger and start mopping. The first thing I noticed was it was hard to push on the old floor, but since I lift weights I decided this was just a new form of exercise that I could get something out of besides muscle tone. The next thing I noticed was the dirt came off the floor. It didn't take me very long and the kitchen was done and next time it should be even quicker since it's much cleaner now. If you are slight and weak you're not gonna like this on the kind of floor that I have because it's hard to push around. It may work easier on a wood floor. Second they give you enough liquid for two uses and then you need to get your own. I have really hard water so I'm skipping the tap water and going with distilled water from the start otherwise I think I would be buying a lot of filtration systems. I've got a closet full of Dust Devils and other stuff that doesn't work but this thing works good. Now if it will just last. Good Starter Steam Mop By Carolyn I bought this steam mop because I starting seeing them everywhere and curiosity got the best of me. I have no real complaints about this mop because based on the price, it does what it should. I use it on tile, hardwood, and stick on laminate flooring. It works great on the tile and laminate/hardwood floor. However, on the stick on flooring, the mop has a tendency to stick, which is probably because the heat from the mop start to melt the stick on flooring. When pushing the mop, it stays in contact with the floor but when pulling it back, it lifts from the floor. I have no issue with this and I simply modified my strokes and speed to account for it. The first time I used the mop, my floors were very wet but each subsequent session has proven to be right on target. The floors take less than one minute to dry. I love that the pads are washable and that there are no chemicals involved. I use the mop every 2 to 3 weeks and it always makes my house smell fresh and clean. The first time I used the mop, I had to use both pads because they got so filthy. Each subsequent session, I have been able to do about 1000 sq ft with just one pad. I am pretty certain that the Swiffer was not getting my floors clean. Speaking of the Swiffer, the steam mop leaves a lot fewer streaks than the Swiffer and in both cases, my last strokes are with the wood grain. One important note, the handle is a bit flimsy. Do not extend it to its fullest setting or you will feel as though you are going to snap it in half. I am 5'8 and I initially tried it on the tallest setting and that was a bit scary. I had visions of the handle breaking and me hitting the floor. I backed off one notch and it's acceptable now. For 50 bucks, this mop is totally a good buy and if you have laminate/hardwood or tile floors you won't be disappointed. If you have the stick on type flooring you will not like this steam mop, although I am not convinced it is specific to this mop, as much as it is they type of flooring and how it adapts to heat. 30 of 31 people found the following review helpful. GOOD STEAM MOP By Amber Varga i was looking at other steam mops, like the ever so popular shark, but to my research and family experiance they arn;t that great..my grandmother has gone through 2 of them because the hose that shoots the steam out hte bottom keeps exploding inside of the machine.And i know this because ive take it apart and you can see the hose is just split verticly down the middle, and its done it on 2 different sharks (same model), only after a couple of months of use. so after that i said i wouldn't buy one. So i bought this steam mop about 2 months ago...and it is still doing a great job...it cleans the floors without using chemicals. the one i got was the DELUXE one, it comes with 2 mop pads and one dust type one with microfiber fingers on it, it also came with the carpet glider...i use it for everything i even ajust it to the lowest small handle setting so it is compact size, and i do my coffee table and couches, because the steam has that germ killing ability. the reason for my 4 star review is because it doesnt come with a normal rectangle head, it has the triangle head, and also the handle at times "feels" flimsy, but nothing u cant over look. 31 of 35 people found the following review helpful. With a cat, a dog and hardwood floors throughout our house, it seemed like the perfect solution to keep the floors clean. I found that you had to sweep dirt into a pile, then use the side of the broom with the hole to ensure suction. It was easier to get out the dust pan. This is NOT IDEAL FOR PET HAIR. It will sweep it, but will not vacuum the pat hair. By KarenFan I purchased this handy sweeper from Sears because I wanted something to pick up after the kids and our pets without having to lug the big vacuum out all the time just to clean up small messes. I was initially skeptical at first, but I knew I would be able to return it to Sears if I wasn't entirely satisfied. The setup and assembly was very quick. Just screw the wands together, attach it to the base, then charge it up. The first charge needs a full 16 hours to condition the batteries, thereafter the unit only needs 12 hours to recharge. I couldn't believe what this thing picked up. Everything from cat hair, litter, crumbs, and just about everything else that manages to find its way to the floor and carpet. Of course, sweepers aren't meant for big, hefty jobs, or for deep cleaning your carpets(this is a job for your vacuum), but they sure come in handy for in-between cleanups of small spills and messes. However, it's important to remember that sweepers are *NOT* vacuums. They have NO suction. They are designed to "sweep" the surface of your carpet and floors for quick, light pick-ups. That being said, I've been completely let down by Dustbusters and all those other "handvacs" that really didn't do anything but make a bunch of noise and lose their power after about 10 minutes of use. After using this, I figure I should only need to thoroughly vacuum once or twice a week now, instead of the usual everyday vacuuming that I used to do... Bissell has designed a real winner here. I'm just curious to see how long the unit and the batteries will last. For some reason, they're still using old NiCad technology here, which is famous for developing the "memory effect" that renders them all but useless after about a year or so. The manual also says the batteries are NOT replaceable and must be disposed of when the unit has reached its useful life... The sweeper has a one(1)year warranty, so we'll see how that works out. For now, I'm extremely pleased with this purchase, and would recommend this to anyone who needs a sweeper or simply wants a quick fix for lugging the main vacuum out all the time. We have three types of hard floors in our home: Pergo, tile with shallow grout, and tile with deep grout. The sweeper is perfect on the Pergo, okay on the tile with shallow grout, and only so-so on the tile with deep grout. The suction is not strong enough to pick up the dirt in the deep grout. Regardless of the floor type, long hair gets wrapped around the rotating bristles and must be cleaned by hand. After they stopped working, the side brushes started hoarding the dirt rather than feeding it into the sweeper. Prior to my purchase, I was under the assumption that the side brushes were powered by the sweeper...but it really operates on a push\pull system. As you push the sweeper...the brushes rotate. However, the pole/handle has the option to lengthen or shorten and mine was stuck. I almost sent it back, because when I pulled on it, it seemed like it was going to break. Eventually, it came out, though. Just be aware that it should get longer if you need it to. I did the kitchen floor last night. I wasn't "amazed" by the amount of dirt it picked up. It didn't pick up years of mud and grime, or change the color of my floor or anything! In fact, I will probably re-use the cloth provided once more before I wash it. But the floors really feel clean today, so I'm happy with the results. And- NO SOAP or CHEMICALS! I'm interested to see how the handheld steamer works on showers and corners and the like. I chose this steamer over all others because it DID include both the floor mop and the handheld option, so I hope I made the right decision! The overall "FEEL" of the product is definitely reminiscent of infomercial quality... it just doesn't feel like a Bissel or other household name would. But I'm willing to give it 30 days to prove itself to me. I'll update this as I've used it more! UPDATE: I used it over the weekend on medium-high to steam clean the glass shower door and frame in the house I just purchased. I cannot tell you how many years of mildew and mold and funk this thing blasted away from the frame of this door! Works Very Well, Once You Get The Hang of It By Marvin Cohn We were about ready to return ours until we figured out that the lower the steam setting (even lower than the instructions), the less water is left on the floor or item (when used on items other than the floor) and the Steamfast's cleaning ability is not lessened by the lower setting. Also, if you are going to use it on both tile floors and wood floors in the same cleaning session and do not want to change pads, use it on the wood floors first at its lowest setting and then clean the tile second on medium. If you use the medium setting first, too much water will be left on whatever you use it afterward when you subsequently turn it down to low. Also, we have found that if you let the mop heat up on very low for a longer period of time, i.e., about a minute or so before using it, less water will be left on the floor. What would be great would be a setting that first heated up the mop with no steam. However, it works very well getting our floors "squeaky clean;" and the floors seem to stay clean much longer.
